Unity Athens to "Bless the Waters,"
in Conjunction with World Day of Prayer
Unity Athens will "bless"
global and local waters on Thursday, September 9 as thousands of people around
the world join Silent Unity, an international, trans-denominational prayer
ministry for the 17th Annual Unity World Day of Prayer.
Unity
Athens, a member of the Association of Unity Churches, is holding this event at
the Healing Arts Centre, 834 Prince Avenue Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in
"appreciation for the beauty of our planet and to pray for its health and
well-being -- especially our oceans, lakes and steams and the life they support." The event is free and will include time for
prayer and meditation plus time for blessings and music. Athens singer/
songwriter Lara Oshon, www.TheStudioSky.com, will
perform. It is open to the public and especially
to members of the Athens holistic/ healing community.
On
arrival, each individual will receive a one-ounce vial of water to bless and
pray over. This reflects Unity's belief in the power of affirmative prayer and
also the work by Dr. Masaru Emoto, who researched the
effectiveness of positive words on bodies of water.
Rev.
Bronte Colbert of Unity Athens said, "As we pray over the water in the
sacred setting of the Healing Arts Centre, we will 'see' our waterways being healthy
and balanced, both now and into the future. In the days after the event, we
will be sending out the vials to designated prayer partners who will add their own ceremony before reverently pouring the
'blessed water' into the waters of our world. Selected locations so far include
the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean / Eastern Seaboard, and the Pacific Ocean. Vials
will also be poured into inland waterways, including our own regional North
Oconee River and Trail Creek."
Unity Athens' water-blessing project
is also sponsored by One%, a non-profit committed to establishing the effects
on the general community of deep prayer and meditation by one percent of the
population. "At Unity Athens we feel positive, shared prayer is a
very powerful thing," said Rev. Colbert. "We are excited about involving our
greater community as we bless our oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and streams
while bringing awareness of the positive impact of prayer and meditation. World Day of Prayer also gives us a chance to
recognize and celebrate our oneness with Spirit, each other, and our
world."
